[...] Brad Levinson respectfully disagrees. He notes a number of trends, including the emergence of corporate and non-Western blogs, which he believes are primed for an explosion in growth. Further, Also not taken into account is the difference between “journalistic/trade/opinion” bloggers versus the “OMGZ! Sanjaya is awfulz!” bloggers. My bet is that the amount of “personal” bloggers is dying off as they move to social networks laden with RSS and other types of blog-like CMSes.
Hello there, Happy April Fool's Day!

A man in a bar sees a friend at a table, drinking by himself.
Approaching the friend he comments, "You look terrible. What's the problem?"
"My mother died in August," he said, "and left me $25,000."
"Gee, that's tough," he replied.
"Then in September," the friend continued, "My father died, leaving me $90,000."
"Wow. Two parents gone in two months. No wonder you're depressed."
"And last month my aunt died, and left me $15,000."
"Three close family members lost in three months? How sad."
"Then this month," continued the friend, "absolutely nothing!"

A really interesting post Brad, and realise I am two years too late to this discussion, but have just written on this subject and against technological determinism. I like the idea of Technological Constructivism, my own suggestion was Technological Humanism, as I think it is important to re focus on human nature and needs as the basis for technological innovation. Looking forward to catching up on the rest of the series when I get a minute.....

To follow on from Lissette's comment, and speaking as an anthropologist who specialises in media issues, I've been wondering for a long time whether in avoiding technological determinism we anthros have a tendency to fall into sociocultural determinism, i.e. the idea that it is society/culture that determines technology, see my blog post on this here:

Good post! Amazon is another place where this sort of behavior runs rampant and I think most people know that and shop with that in mind?
Brad-
Great to see that others are understanding why anthropologists are also great social media strategists. I am an anthropologist by academic training and I am a social media marketer by profession. Ethnographies, as you know, are especially important when entering into a community or culture, but the same applies to online communities. The similarities are astonishing. Did you already post the ethnographic model and its social equivalent blog post? I look forward to it! Keep up the great posts!
