And a happy, happy Friday to you all!
I’ve got a busy day ahead of me, but here are some links to peak your interest, perhaps:
1. Bubbl.us: “Brainstorming made simple,” says this new collaborative brainstorming website. It looks nice, but I wonder how well-used something like this could be. A great tool for a suite, but may not stand well on its own.
2. Geni mentioned on Wikinomics blog: One of my new favorite books, Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams, has a website with a great blog. In one of their posts today, they mention a new “social family tree” website called Geni. With Geni, you input your family tree on a website and invite your family to collaborate.
I tried Geni when it first launched, and despite a few kinks the first day, I’d say it’s a fairly good project. However, I think it could be substantially improved with one new social aspect. As of right now, you can only collaborate with members of your family. However, once the family has collaborated, you’re stuck as far as lineage is concerned. You’ve gone back as far as you can go back.
What if, however, Geni’s engines were able to detect matches in family trees, and offer invitations for further collaboration with members of your family that you never knew existed? Further patterns can emerge, and from there, you may be able to see if you’re related to anyone you may know.
Food for thought.

The proper term is “pique interest.”
